A guide to car alarm systems

In the United States alone, a car is either stolen or broken into every 20 seconds. It is therefore not surprising that car alarm system manufacturers are constantly finding ways to improve the theft deterrence abilities of their products. But while it’s amazing how car alarm systems have evolved form their simplest beginnings, it’s even more amazing how car thieves still manage to get around them. Are car alarm systems really too simple to provide any protection?

Basic car alarm systems work by using simple circuitry technology – if someone forces the car door open, the circuit is closed and a siren sounds off. More sophisticated car alarms have added more sensors to capture every possible threat by being more sensitive to light vibrations or pressures. Shock sensors cause the alarm to go off when someone or something hits or moves the vehicle. The alarm will go off in patterns dependent on how strong the shock is – the sounds go anywhere from a short beeping sound to a very loud, nonstop alarm. Because shock sensors are very sensitive to any movement in and around the car, it often goes off accidentally; when someone leans on your car while waiting for a cab, for example, or when a huge truck passes by and causes the ground on which your car is parked to vibrate.

Whether they effectively deter thieves or not is subject to debate. Some experts say that shock sensors make car alarms go off unduly, and that this has caused people to become immune to them. Studies show that car alarm sounds have become so ordinary that almost nobody notices them anymore.

Manufacturers of car alarm systems are going full speed on their development of new and more innovative alarms that are more proactive. These alarms have the power to stop a stolen vehicle or send signals by themselves so that the owner and the police can track its location.

The decision to rent or buy a home

The pace of life can be so quick that we have a tendency to blow by important decisions. One such decision is the decision to rent or buy a home.

The Decision to Rent or Buy A Home

One of the biggest decisions people come to is the issue of renting versus buying. Really, it is an extremely tough choice to choose between the two. However, I once had an economics teacher who put it extremely well and puts the whole thing in perspective. His motto was, “Rent when you have to, buy when you can.” This statement is only too true, and here is why.

Renting can be a big plus for certain people. People who are on the move, people who get relocated with their jobs and need to stay mobile, and also for people who just moved out of the house and have low income and no credit. In any of these situations, renting is definitely a good choice. Renting allows people who need to stay mobile the opportunity to do just that. They go month by month and aren’t committed anywhere. Also, the paperwork required for renting is minute in comparison to that of buying and selling. In addition, those with low income and credit scores should also consider renting. Looking for a mortgage with low credit scores will be very difficult and even if you find one the interest will be unreasonable, not to mention the fact that even making the monthly payments can be unmanageable.

However, the benefits of buying, when able to, far outweigh those of renting. Sure, buying a house takes tons of paperwork and involves commitment to that house. But in the long run, owning a home is extremely important since your home is one of the biggest investments you can make. The key to this is home equity. Equity is essentially the value of the home. This equity almost always increases over time and can sometimes take huge leaps such as the recent price hikes of homes in California. These huge spikes drastically increase the price of the home and leave the homeowners with a lot of money right beneath their feet that is always available. Also, equity enables homeowners to pull out home equity loans that are based on the value of their homes and generally have reasonable interest rates.

Of course, this all depends on ability to buy. Having a good credit score, a good amount of money put away, and a good income are all incredibly important. A good credit score allows the person to obtain lower interest rates on mortgages, a good amount of savings allows a higher down payment, and a good income allows the person to make the payments. When this can be done, buying is definitely advised. Renting has its benefits, but buying is always better.

The golf ball and your handicap

For the regular golfer the news on the modern golf ball is all good. The ball doesn’t slice or hook anywhere near as much as it did 15 years ago and it goes a lot further. But why hasn’t the average club member’s handicap dropped. The answer is almost certainly in the golf ball you are teeing up.

Today a solidly hit golf ball doesn’t move. The manufacturer’s designers have worked the long night hours to make it so. But for most of us the percentage of solidly hit shots hasn’t improved that much and the ball, when hit poorly, will deviate from the straight and narrow.

And some balls will deviate more than others. Would you believe that the golf ball a Pro plays with will deviate more than many of the alternatives on the market!

The argument, then, is that most amateur golfers could be playing with a golf ball that will make them straighter but choose not to.

Of course the modern golf ball goes further, by quite some distance, leaving you much closer to the green playing from the rough.

The bad news, for those who pick the ball used by their hero on TV, is that the same golf ball, when hit with a swing speed of only 85mph, isn’t going to perform anywhere near its optimum level, leaving you not only further from the Fairway than you’d like, but further from the Green than you could be.

Not the combination that any of us were looking for when we teed up our brand new golf ball and envisioned, in our pre-shot routine, a long, slight draw that leaves us a simple approach from the center of the Fairway.

So, why do less than 20% of regular golfers take the time and trouble to find the golf ball that will marry their swing speed and their requirement for control and feel? Why, when each new golf ball offers a toolbox of technologies all offering different benefits, do we play the golf ball we do?

Spend a little time working out what characteristics your golf ball needs to have to help you enjoy your golf game that little bit more. Be prepared to experiment and remember that you can get qualified advice with your nearest PGA Golf Professional

What you need to know about ezine advertising

By far the most effective and cost-effective way of advertising, especially for a new business is ezine advertising. It has 4 distinct advantages…

a. It's easy to reach targeted prospects

b. It gives results fast. Typically, you should see results within 72 hours after your ad is published.

c. It's easy to test your ad effectiveness

d. It's easy to calculate your Return on Investment (ROI)

Most direct mail companies charge several hundred dollars per thousand mailing, whereas ezine advertising costs anywhere from five ten dollars to fifty dollars per thousand. This is definitely much more cost-effective

compare to advertising in magazines.

Although it is generally true that response rates to ads is better with higher subscriber count, there are exceptions where smaller subscriber lists yield higher returns. Because these subscribers are 100 percent opt-ins. Also these ezines in mention are highly informative and don't have too many ads per publication. The chances of your ads being read are very high. The click through rates will be good if your ads are relevant to

the ezine content.

3 types of Ezine Ads

There are basically 3 types of Ezine ads namely, Classified ads, Sponsor ads and Solo Ads.

1.Classified ads – This is the cheapest form of ezine advertising. Some publications offer free ads in exchange for your subscription. The ads are grouped in the middle or end of the publication.

2.Sponsor Ads – The ads are placed at the top of the publication. They cost more than classified ads but more effective than classified ads.

3.Solo Ads – These are mailed out separately from the main ezine. This is the most effective of the three types of ezine ads but also commands a premium.

Quick Guide to Ezine Advertising

1.Before you placed your ads, check out the quality of the prospective publication. Select three good ezines and subscribe to them. From the publications you would know what kind of audience these ezines are targeting, the content, and the number of ads per publication, which are crucial to your advertising campaign.

Pay close attention to the ads that run in each issue. If you see the same ad on a regular basis, chances are the ad is profitable for the advertiser. It is common sense that advertisers will continue to advertise in an ezine only if it is profitable.

If someone else is already promoting a similar product like yours in a particular ezine, give it a miss. It makes no sense to have two advertisers competing in one ezine. In any case, the publisher may not permit similar products.

2.Keep your ads short. Normally, the publisher will allow 5 to 7 lines of text with a maximum of 65 characters per line. Don't sell your product or service in your ads. Generate interest and leads.

3.Write compelling headlines to draw readers.

4.Use your ads to direct prospects to your landing page, which may be a sales copy, course sign-up or ezine subscription.

5.Track response to your ads. This is crucial. Or you will have no idea if it is profitable to run the same ad again. In order to test the effectiveness of your ad, it is advisable that you run the same ad in at least 3 ezines. If you run your ad in only one ezine, and should campaign flop, you will not know whether the problem lies in your ad or ezine.

Due to recent popularity of ezine publishing, and depending on the publication, the lead-time can take anywhere from a few weeks to months. Factor in the lead-time if you have a time sensitive offer.

Test your ads with low-subscription ezine that don't have a long waiting list. You don't want to wait in line for a few months just to test out your ad, and imagine if it turned out to be a bummer. Advertise with low-cost, low subscription count ezines for a start. Until you have a proven winner, keep to low-cost, low-subscription ezines.

Learning spanish and the pluperfect tense

The Pluperfect Tense

In this Spanish lesson, we will learn the Pluperfect Tense. Whether you are learning Spanish online, with CDs, or Learning Spanish software, you will find this lesson helpful in your journey to learn how to speak Spanish.

For the most part, the Pluperfect Tense is used to express a past fact or action that occurred before another past action took place.

In English, this can be expressed in the following manner:

I had thought of you when you called.

Although in English we tend to use the preterite to express two consecutive actions in the past, in Spanish this is rarely the case. Instead, the Pluperfect Tense is used.

In Spanish, the above sentence is translated to:

Yo habнa pensado en usted cuando llamу.

Notice how the auxiliary verb haber (to have) is a prominent part of this tense, both in Spanish and in English. The main verb parallels the past participle.

Let us take a closer look at the conjugation for the Pluperfect Tense for - ar, - er, and - ir verbs in Spanish.

Trabajar (to work)

yo habнa trabajado (I had worked) nosotros habнamos trabajado (we had worked)

tъ habнas trabajado (you had worked) ellos habнan trabajado (they had worked)

йl habнa trabajado (he had worked) ellas habнan trabajado (they had worked)

ella habнa trabajado (she had worked) ustedes habнan trabajado (you had worked)

usted habнa trabajado (you had worked)

Notice how the conjugation for this tense is easily formed by adding - нa to hab--the auxiliary verb haber's stem. The past participle for the main verb is then added to complete the conjugation.

This conjugation format is repeated for - er and - ir verbs as well.

Comer (to eat)

yo habнa comido (I had eaten) nosotros habнamos comido (we had eaten)

tъ habнas comido (you had eaten) ellos habнan comido (they had eaten)

йl habнa comido (he had eaten) ellas habнan comido (they had eaten)

ella habнa comido (she had eaten) ustedes habнan comido (you had eaten)

usted habнa comido (you had eaten)

Salir (to go out)

yo habнa salido (I had gone out) nosotros habнamos salido (we had gone out)

tъ habнas salido (you had gone out) ellos habнan salido (they had gone out)

йl habнa salido (he had gone out) ellas habнan salido (they had gone out)

ella habнa salido (she had gone out) ustedes habнan salido (you had gone out)

usted habнa salido (you had gone out)

What follows are a few examples of the PluPerfect Tense in Spanish:

Yo habнa salido cuando el telйfono sonу.

(I had gone out when the telephone rang.)

Juan y yo ya habнamos cenado cuando Sra. Patricia nos ofreciу comida.

(We had already had dinner when Mrs. Patricia offered us food.)

Mauricio habнa hablado con su papб cuando llegу su mamб.

(Mauricio had spoken to his father when his mother arrived.)

Roberto y Julio habнan bebido ron antes de llegar a la fiesta.

(Roberto and Julio had drank rum before they arrived at the party.)

Josefina no habнa dormido mucho antes de entrarse en el aviуn.

(Josefina had not slept a lot before she entered the airplane.)

Now let’s try a few exercises. Translate the following into Spanish. The answers follow the exercise.

1. Clara had cleaned the house when her friends arrived.

2. I had practiced my Spanish before Juan called me.

3. We had eaten too much, when the dessert arrived.

4. Paco and Enrique had finished the exam when the bell rang.
