When someone we loved has passed away, we might find comfort in being able to contact the person through psychic means to give or receive final messages from the other side. This is what a medium specializes in. A psychic medium is someone who can connect with those who have passed on and share the thoughts of the spirit with the person or people left behind in the world, as we know it.
There really are people who can communicate with those who are no longer with us, but there are also some real scam artists out there who will take advantage of the grieving people looking for one last moment with their loved ones. This is why you need to be cautious about the medium you use to have this moment yourself.
You should beware of the Ouija boards because both the living and the spirit world have beings that can manipulate the Ouija board disingenuously. A Ouija board has all the letters in the alphabet on it, and a marker that slides around the board to spell out messages. The idea is that the people using the board will place their hands on the marker but they will not actually move it. The spirit of the person they are trying to contact in the spirit world is supposed to move the marker to spell out the message, but you never know if you are really talking to the spirit or if someone else at the board is moving the marker. For this reason, avoid the Ouija board.
You should also watch out for tealeaf readers, or any medium, who tells you that you must give the medium money on behalf of the person who has passed on that you are trying to contact. There are charlatans who have no sense of remorse about fooling you into thinking that the dead need our money to go to strangers staring at tealeaves. Walk away as soon as the medium tells you to fork over cash on behalf of your loved one. This is an age-old scam.
All this talk about con artists might seem discouraging, but there are legitimate mediums out there, and you can find one if you are cautious.
There are two basic types of mediums: physical mediums and mental mediums. They have different ways to connect with those who have passed on, but they are all mediums. Here is a basic breakdown of how each type of medium works.
The physical medium will channel energy from the spirit world into the physical world in any number of ways. The physical medium may use a pen and paper to channel the message from the spirit; the medium allows the spirit to control the use of the pen and paper to communicate with the person in this world. This is called automatic writing, but there are many other forms of physical mediumship.
For example, levitation, telekinesis, and seeing auras are all examples of physical mediumship. Levitation is when the body of a person is lifted up without any visible person or object moving the body. Someone is floating in the air without any strings attached if there is levitation happening. Telekinesis is the state of moving objects in the physical world with the mind and no physical assistance, like switching off a light without touching it. An aura is a glow of energy around a person that describes the person’s state of existence like mood or power.
A mental medium will have different kinds of powers. The mental medium will sense the message from the spirit world either through some kind of psychic sight, smell, sound, or touch. It might even be from taste. Clairsentience is the experience of a psychic sensing the something intangible or not readily apparent to the psychic. More specifically, clairvoyance is often the term used to describe psychic sight. Clairaudience is psychic hearing, and clairalience is psychic smelling, while clairgustance is psychic tasting.
Whatever kind of medium you find, be cautious but be open to the experience. If you are so inclined, there are even mediums out there who can communicate with your pets who have passed on to the other side!
